From Will Wright in Wired

In an era of structured education and standardized testing, this generational difference might not yet be evident. But the gamers’ mindset - the fact that they are learning in a totally new way - means they’ll treat the world as a place for creation, not consumption. This is the true impact videogames will have on our culture.

Just from this quote, I don’t clearly see the creation and consumption distinction between those who learn from games and those who learn from testing. I could just as easily say that the gamer is a consumer because they buy innovation - the “learning in a totally new way”.

I think though that with the ease it is to create games these days.. With open source and developing technology.. anyone with a good idea can become a social critic with the right game mechaniques..
