Posted by mwj as governance, journalism, politics, twu, twusa. 2 comments. At Trinity Western University, the newspaper is run a bit like it was in the Soviet Union. One man is resonsible for appointing the editor of the school newspaper, Mars’ Hill. This same man is also the chief advisor to the student government, TWUSA. This same man is also the only person on the final appeals board for “accountability” (i.e. disciplinary) issues. This same man is also in charge of the most ubiquitous campus institution, Student Life.
Save Larry the Registrar May 5, 2006
Posted by mwj as politics, twu. 1 comment so far.So apparently the registrar at Trinity Western University just got fired. His name is Larry Van Beek. There’s a website out there called Save Larry that claims that he “has been dismissed without proper cause, and outside of due process.”
Anyone have any ideas what this is about?
Who said we weren’t supposed to get political? April 27, 2006
Posted by mwj as governance, politics, twu. add a comment. From the Guardian on a recent piece about the cost of education:
‘Going to university is about more than earning money. It is about getting involved in student life - getting involved in political and democratic bodies, setting up or joining a society and meeting lots of people.’
If our education isn’t going to be worth beans to us after we get out into the real world, what’s so bad about a little bit of political advocacy inside the bubble? Notice the use of “student life” and “democratic bodies” in the same sentence: something completely foreign to TWU.
Thanks to Matt for this one.
Neufeld computer lab not open during finals April 24, 2006
Posted by mwj as technology, twu. add a comment.I recently had to find a clandestine way to get some files I needed for school from the Trinity Western University server, because the computer lab in the basement of Neufeld isn’t open.
